To the editor:
When disaster struck in Hillsborough earlier this year many residents were rightfully concerned about the air quality and the potential fallout from the terrible fire that shook our community.
Luckily, our congressman, Leonard Lance, partnered with the Township Committee in 2009 and 2010 to secure the safe removal of the mercury that the federal government had stored at an adjacent facility and failed to remove for years.
Leonard Lance does a great job in Washington voting for policies that benefit Hillsborough and our families and helps keep us safe from those in the world to seek to do us harm. But the role of representative is more than voting in Congress — Leonard Lance fought with us against federal bureaucracy when Hillsborough needed his support. We are very fortunate he worked with us to remove the mercury, or we might have been dealing with a much worse situation.
Hillsborough has benefited from Leonard Lance’s effective leadership as our representative. Republicans in the 7th District should nominate him in the June 7 primary to continue to fight for us in Congress.
Editor’s note: The letter was signed by Hillsborough Mayor Frank DelCore and the other four Township Committee members Carl Suraci, Gloria McCauley, Doug Tomson and Greg Burchette. All are Republicans.
